Sancho IV el Bravo (Toledo, 1258-1295) fue el segundo hijo de Alfonso X el Sabio y Violante de Aragón. A la muerte de su hermano Fernando de la Cerda en 1275, fue proclamado heredero al trono ante la necesidad de contar con un jefe militar. Las luchas contra los benimerines no le impidieron el mantenimiento del Scriptorum "alfonsí". Este códice, de finales del s. XIII, recoge las enseñanzas aprendidas. Intercala sus experiencias con paisajes bíblicos, buenas costumbres tradicionales, e incluso añade algunos relatos de las Cantigas de Alfonso X. El texto y sus hermosas miniaturas de vivos colores, hacen de este Códice un escaso ejemplo de la literatura medieval española.

PUNISHMENTS AND DOCUMENTS OF SANCHO IV National Library M. 3995 (Case 17.8) Sancho IV "The Brave" (Toledo 1258-1295) was the second son of Alfonso X "The Learned" and Violante of Aragon. To the death of his brother, Ferdinand de la Cerda in 1275, he was claimed heir to he throne because of the necessity to have a military leader. The fights against the Moors did not prevent him from the maintenance of the "Scriptorium Alfonsi" (The Alfonsine Tables). This codex, of ends of thirteenth century collects the teachings learned. It inserts his experiences with biblical passages, good traditional customs, and ever adds some stories from the Cantigas (songs) of Alfonso X. The text and the beautiful colourful miniatures, make this codex, a scanty example of the spanish medieval-era literature.
